@M55q: You should be proud of your Monarchy! It’s great!

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

This family is just like everyone else??
i hope you are only joking

this is the only family who who dips generously into state’s coffers on virtues of almost purely symbolic works, and is able to “command respect”

M55q February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

Those uniforms are unbelievable!! I would love to get my hands on one of them.

And to all you haters. I am proud of my Queen. I am proud of our Monarchy. And I don’t mind paying a little extra tax to keep the monarchy alive.

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

I want to maintain peaceful and respectful terms with all those who disagree with me, just because the republicans and monarchists do not agree does not mean we have to be disagreeable, it is only a matter with regards to the freedom of conscience.

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

Privilege in republic can be justified, because they are obtained by merits and are potentially available to all, and under public scrutiny.
Monarchic privilege is unjust because it is hereditary because on the notion of blue blood, they are ever-lasting, and apply to all royal members, and the money they spend is not even their owe.

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

You are so despotic, tell me to back off from Europe, just because my opinions differ from yours I cant even speak out? no wonder monarchists are sometimes accused of being reactionary.
Honestly speaking, we Canadians simply cant stand waste of taxes of this proportion, we certainly have wasteful uses here, but not on this scale, and on those unjust monarchic principles, the last governor general here spends a little too much and the public is outrage.

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

If you think people are against monarchy because of personal grievances, what a pathetic joke. There are many republicans from high positions. As for myself, Im from a fairly rich family and studying political science in one of Canadas best universities, we often discuss about the relevancy of monarchy in classes, thats why I have learned to be critical about it.

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

You do not excuse and justify one institution by lashing out against the flaws of others, the politicians may enjoy their privilges, because they obtained their high positions by personal merits, and deserve the privileges they enjoy, their privileges are not ever-lasting, they are gone once they are removed from office, and their wives and children do not receive massive allowances.

jsharitz February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

All these haters on this board. This family is just like everyone else, just with a different and more priveleged role in society. Quit talking about a high tax rate..What do you think Americans pay for the same services and taxes healthcare and standard of living? MUCH MORE. Americans have far less expendable income and a far worse healthcare system and education than in Denmark.

monarchytoday February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

found this comment, I owe nothing
“I pay around 38% procent of it as tax. My tax money is financing Mary’s designer clothes. But the thing about Mary is that she always come off as aloof and rather self-centered, and she only started to endorse more worthy charities after being dictated to do it. I guess, what I’m trying to say is, that she seems fake. I do hope and sort of believe that she genuinely loves Frederik, but as I said she doesn’t seem to care a great deal about others.”

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

the danes pay around 37% of their incomes to taxation, and this is how this being treated
have mercy on the honest labouring people

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

Princess Mary spends $28 million on palace renovation, so her family could move in

glad I’m not living in denmark

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

the simple point is: he does not earn his own money, the taxpayers pay every thing
If a commoner live like that, would not he/she be branded as a parasite?
why should not the same rule apply to the royals?
no offense

elyass11 February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

Any way they are royall family n you danish must be proud of them they are beautiest symbol of denmark kingdom

Caite33 February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

Right Harvard just lets anyone in . . . and U.N. work, masters in political science in Aarhus, working with the embassy in Paris and military service where he became a member of special forces . . . yup nothing to be proud of there.

Just cause he didn’t have much of a choice about going into the family business doesn’t mean he didn’t work and accomplish things.

Caite33 February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

This is a family that has served Denmark since Gorm the old, the longest uninterrupted line in Europe. They have been with Denmark through everything and is the past present and future of the people they are these days more ambassadors, secretaries of state and figureheads but they still serve an important and vital role to Denmark.

If you think the people don’t love their monarchs look to Christian X and his rides through Copenhagen during WWII

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

if anyone think their blood is bluer than the others, they should see the doctors
this is the 21th century, not the middle ages
the argument that in the superioty birth itself warrants privilege has fallen into disrepute

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

royals of all countries perform charity
but are they not the recipients of charity themselves?
you call them hard working, well who isn’t ?
does hard working itself warrants state to pay for your luxuries?
the danish royalty is one of the most expensive royal houses in europe

astridbelge February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

there are civil servants and politicians who perfrom endless public duties as well
does any government entitle them to live on public expenditures in eternity?
I think monarchy is unjust in itself
and the principle that people should support themselves apply to everyone
as for british monarchy, I pray for the day that canada severs its ties with it

mc0558 February 7, 2010 at 9:12 am

You’re still going on about him? I not that you are Canadian. I am surprised that you donl go on about your own royal family.
Danish tax payers pay salaries and expenses incurred in state service for all of Denmark’s civil servants. The Crown Prince and Princess, who perform innumerable public and governmental duties in Denmark and abroad, are no exception. What would you have them do, teach school?
I don’t understand why you, a Canadian, are going on like this. Do you have issues? Tell us!
